..Every day, we leave our house on a hill in the German Alps and hike over a mile down into the village to pick up some fresh bread and food for the day. Each time as we reach the very outskirts of town, we meet this little guy and his wife, who run right up to the fence to greet us. This area of Germany is so traditional, it is so easy to imagine a very similar lifestyle here fifty years ago. We haven’t named the Mr. and his Mrs. yet – any ideas?

Thanks Angela! :-) We love our little donkeys, and I think they really recognize us when we go by. Of course, we could be the only ones who give them such a hearty shout out every time!!!

How cute is he?! Since they're German, you should give them German names :) Or just stick with Mr. and Mrs. ESEL (aka donkey in German).

I think if we call them Esels they will come running for sure. We started feeding them a little bit now too...hope we don't leave here with pet donkeys :-)

We tried out Alfonso - he didn't come running...maybe something more like Matthias or Uwe or Gerhardt or something really traditionally German...have to test that out. :-)
