With over a month to spend in California and plans to travel between Los Angeles and San Francisco, there was no question that we would take the Pacific Coast Highway for a true California Dreamin’ road trip.

Today I am sharing some facts about Buffalo, NY that surprised me – that it was one of the wealthiest city in the US, has countless architectural gems, and some other fun facts!

13 September marked our 500th day on the road – it has been almost 18 months now since we started traveling and we spent the last 100 days traveling in Portugal, Canada and the U.S. Read on for a summary of our reflections and find our where we are headed next!

We had just gotten to Guatemala and stayed in the city of Flores for a couple of days, which is actually a beautiful island in Lake Peten Itza. One day, as we sat on the dock just soaking up the sun, an Guatemalan ‘anciano’ (or really old man) came over and started to chat with us. He introduced himself as ‘Miguel de San Miguel’, Miguel from San Miguel, a little village on the other side of the lake.

The sleepy colonial town in the center of the Yucatan peninsula has a classic, authentic feel, the kind of place which is somehow still devoid of major tourism despite its proximity to the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza and several beautiful cenotes.
