Polaroid of the week: Sunset over the Mekong River in Luang Prabang, Laos

No matter what we did each day during our time in Laos, we always took the time to catch the sunset. For an entirely landlocked country, Laos is great for sunsets over water, as many towns and villages are located right on rivers with mountains and forest filling out the gorgeous backdrop. We would watch the sun disappear behind the mountains and the colors of the sky change from blue to purple to red and bright orange before the dark night sky came like a cloth dampening the fire.
One particularly great sunset was in Luang Prabang, from the temple on top of Phou Si Hill in the middle of the town. Easily the highest point in town, people gather each night to watch the sunset over the sweeping views of the Mekong river.

Dang, it really is a good place for a sunset! I like the hazy almost vintage-feel of the photo. Very cool.

Thanks Christy! I hope Laos is on your list of places to visit while you’re in South East Asia – a fascinating country!

That is a beautiful photo Dany! I am going to head over to the Facebook page now and check out more. Where else are you visiting in Asia?
Dani

Thanks Fidel! We have been only in Thailand in Laos so far, but we’ll travel to Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia in the next couple of months. Vietnam and Cambodia after that – and then we’re off to India
Any recommendations for SEA? Japan is high on our list, btw, and we can’t wait to finally get there!

When will you be in Japan?
In Vietnam, definitely try and do 2 nights on a junk boat in Halong Bay. I stayed at a very nice hostel in Hanoi. If you are going there, I can get the name of it for you.
Also go to Hue and Hoi An if you will be in the central part of Vietnam.
Are you going to Borneo when you visit Malaysia?

Yes, we’ll definitely go to Hanoi and we’ll also do Halong Bay. We are not sure yet if we have time to make it to Borneo while in Malaysia (we’d love to!) but we know already that we’ll be back in Asia sooner or later. We thought we’d be able to visit Japan while we’re here but we might not have enough time this time around
