One question I often get asked is:Wwhat are safe countries for female solo travelers? Today let’s talk a bit about the safety and traveling – especially if you are planning to travel all by yourself, and you happen to be a lady traveler too!
I am going to share a few countries that I consider safe for female travelers, and interesting enough so that you don’t even have time to feel lonely. The following countries are only a few of my favorites – of course there are plenty of other destinations that I also consider safe for female solo travelers, and if you are considering a country that’s not on my list, please feel free to message me and ask me for my opinion (granted I’ve visited the country you’re eyeing with).

Five safe countries for female solo travelers
1 Iceland
Iceland is one of the leaders in safe countries to travel solo, since this fantastic island is very welcoming to visitors. A friend of mine traveled Iceland solo in a rental car and made friends by picking up hitchhikers. If you start your trip in a hostel in Reykjavik, you will connect with other travelers for sure and you can join forces. Everything you’ve ever heard about the beauty of this country is true, so definitely travel around. All those geysers, lava fields, glaciers and hot springs will make your vacation in Iceland unforgettable.
2 Canada
Canada is another leader in lists like the one you are reading right now. Nearly everywhere you go, you will be surrounded by multiculturalism and some of the most breathtaking landscapes your eyes have ever seen. All those national parks are a dream for every girl who loves hiking and is looking for some solitude, surrounded by stunningly beautiful landscapes. Canadians have a reputation for being the friendliest and the most polite people in the world, so you will always feel safe in Canada, even if you are traveling all by yourself.
3 Peru
This beautiful little gem in South America might not be one of the leaders of safety, but there are some good examples and testimonies from solo females who have been there. To be fair, if you travel around Peru alone, for the most part, you likely won’t be alone, since there will be a lot of backpackers and other travelers in similar situations just like you. And we all know how open minded and friendly travelers are (aren’t we?). An established tourism industry in Peru is also a huge plus, making the logistics and planning easy. And let’s not forget the natural beauty of this country, altogether with incredible history and the grand ancient city of Machu Picchu.
4 Japan
Yes! Japan is super safe, but keep in mind that because of the language barrier, getting Lost In Translation can actually happen, and you may feel a bit isolated. In all metropoles of Japan, there are always tons of police officers around, and streets are always lit bright. So feeling unsafe here would be unnecessary, because nobody will bother you for sure! Since this beautiful and truly exotic country is easy to travel, Japan is one of the safest countries for solo female travelers, but expect to spend quite a bit of time alone, since Japan isn’t known for its hostel scene and it can be difficult to connect with other female travelers. 5 Thailand
One of my favorite countries for female solo travelers – but not just for solo females – is Thailand. I’ve traveled around Thailand several times, and I’ve never felt like unsafe. On the contrary, I never felt like I had to worry about anything or anyone, and Thai people are so friendly that it’s hard to believe that any of them could possibly be bad. I don’t want to sugarcoat anything though – Thailand is notorious for its scammers, and yes, I fell for them. Getting scammed in Bangkok was one of the most embarrassing and humiliating travel experiences in my life. That said, it didn’t stop me from returning to Thailand (three times, as of now!) and even back then it couldn’t take away from the beautiful beaches, amazing food, and interesting culture.
