Polaroid of the week: Chinatown, New York

polaroid of the week usa new york city chinatownJuly is nearly over, which means my U.S. visa is about to run out. As usual, I am extremely upset to leave, this time maybe even more than ever. I’ve got to say a few more words on this topic, but I wanted to keep the Polaroid light, so look out for it in my July round-up. I left Gomez and moved in with Jessie, my biggest fling from last summer.. cat fling, that is. Do you remember her? She was my favorite pet and I looked after her several times last summer, and the exciting part of the cat sit this year is that her owner moved from Brooklyn to the Lower East Side – to Chinatown to be precise.

I have never spent much time down here which is why I was excited to finally explore Chinatown in more detail, and take advantage of the short way home from the many cool Lower East Side bars. Plus, I am only living two blocks from my favorite doughnut shop (Doughnut Plant), a great Bialy bakery (Kossar’s), one of my favorite speakeasy bars (Attaboy) and the famous Vanessa’s Dumplings House. And did I mention the cat cafe a two-minute walk from my house??

I’ve been spending so much time in Brooklyn this summer that I am excited to be in Manhattan again before I leave New York – but being close to both the Williamsburg and the Manhattan Bridge makes it also easy to head to all my favorite Brooklyn hangouts, especially by bike. I still have a gazillion things on my New York summer wishlist – let’s see how many of them I’ll get around to doing before I get kicked out of the country.

You may have noticed that I took some time off from Globetrottergirls over the past couple of weeks, which I will talk about in more detail in my monthly round-up, but I’ll be back to my regular posting schedule in August – I’ve got plenty of travel stories to share with you!
