We arrived in Santiago last week and have settled into our first South American housesit. But we have to admit that we haven’t seen much of Santiago yet, spending roughly 12 hours a day editing and publishing our book (which we talked about in our launch post yesterday).
Luckily we have at least been doing it all in style. Our apartment is in one of Santiago’s more exclusive neighborhoods, and our three bedroom condo is bright, clean and as comfortable as a five-star hotel. Even better, though, is the fact that we are in charge of two of the sweetest, most affectionate Scottish terrier brothers who instantly welcomed us into their clique. If it weren’t for their walks (and the Starbucks on the way) we’re not sure if we would have left at all! It didn’t hurt that one of them turned out to be an excellent editor, evident in the Polaroid above.
Now that the book has been published, we are looking forward to exploring Santiago – if you have any tips and recommendations for us, share them in the comments below!

It's heavy-duty, but I would recommend that you go to the Human Rights Museum (Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos). It's quite an emotional visit, but it helps you understand what the people have gone through with Allende's assassination and Pinochet's rule. Two things there I would highly recommend - go to the top floor for a view of the photos of the disappeared and also look for the headphones to listen to Allende's final & eloquent speech to his people moments before he died.
On the lighter side, check out some jazz in the Bellavista neighborhood. Have a wonderful time in Santiago & a big congrats on your new book!! My housesit is starting on 1 Jan! :)

Lisa - thanks so much for the tip. We'll definitely go to the Human Rights Museum. Jazz in Bellavista also sounds great! Where is your housesit?

Congratulations on publishing your new book. Wish you the best. Nice photo of man's ( and woman's) best friend, seems to be totally lost in his own world. Enjoy Santiago.

Thanks so much, Shalu! We haven't explored as much of Santiago as we should have, but now that the book is done we're excited to spend some time sightseeing!
