Savannah, Georgia, was one of the destinations on our New York to New Orleans road trip that we both looked most forward to, having wanted to visit this little town in Georgia for a long time. We both had certain images of the town in mind before we even arrived: grand Victorian mansions, little squares with locals reading the papers on the benches, trees filled with Spanish moss…
And when we arrived, we were not disappointed! Savannah turned out to be one of our favorite places in the U.S., and we loved the small-town feel, the friendly people, the independent cafes and walking the tree-lined streets for hours and hours.
Enjoy Savannah through our lens:
We love the public statues in the squares around town…
…and can easily imagine living in one of these gorgeous buildings…
...hell, we could even find religion – these churches are so beautiful!
This butterfly fluttered by us in a square…
…on our way to this supposedly haunted house.
The details around the town make Savannah such a unique city…
…with unexpected quirks that make you laugh out loud…
…and intricate, yet crumbling features that make us realize Savannah’s rich deep history…
We could easily spend hours in the squares of Savannah…
Soldiers chose to spend time in the graveyard instead and trampled it – leaving mismatched or unmarked graves.
We were so charmed by the sprawling properties…
…and even more so by the Spanish Moss…
Everywhere we looked, tiny details were just begging to be discovered in Savannah, and we can not wait to go back for more!

It looks amazing. Ive been trying to decide between Savanna and Charleston for a spare week I have during my trip to the US in June/July – think you’ve just made up my mind for me!
Thanks Karen! It’s a tough call, Savannah or Charleston. We were lucky enough to visit both last summer, and they both made it on our list of favorite places (http://globetrottergirls.com/2011/09/500-days-on-the-road-tops-flops-of-the-last-100-days/) but I have to say that Savannah was a little bit more charming than Charleston and we have a bigger desire to return to Savannah than to Charleston. That said, we spent much more time in Savannah, so our view might be somewhat biased. You’ll love Savannah – enjoy your trip there 🙂
I’ve always wanted to visit, and your pictures really, REALLY, solidified that desire. Beautiful.
Thanks William! I think it’s one of the most photogenic cities in the U.S. 🙂 You should definitely visit Savannah one day!
Just spent time there last summer and loved it. What a beautiful city!
Thanks Jan! It’s hard NOT to love Savannah, I guess. Definitely a city we can see ourselves going back to!
Wonderful photos. Savannah looks like such a lovely city.
Thanks Alouise – Savannah is gorgeous!! If you ever plan a visit to the South, you have to add Savannah to your list of places to visit – you won’t regret it 🙂
Wow! Great pics. Love the butterfly especially.
Love shots of doors and windows, they’re really great metaphors for travel. When you step inside a doorway or lean out of a window, where are you? Part of you is in one room, and part of you is in the other. For that moment as you are passing through the doorway, you’re neither here or there—you’re in between.
Nice! and so true – I really like that way of thinking Daniel!
Savannah has so much charm, and I think all the old houses and big oaks are a large contribution to that. And all that mossy tree stuff is really cool (I’m still not convinced it’s *actual* moss, though). 😛
Totally agree with you on the Spanish ‘Moss’ conspiracy! ha! I don’t know what it is, but it’s not quite moss, is it?! 🙂
I loved revisiting Savannah through your photos even more now that our baby has the same name.
One of my US faves!! What a city
So true! What a connection you have to the city now! 🙂 Really, what a city for sure..
That butterfly shot is gorgeous! The whole South is such an awesome place to photograph!
Thanks Andi! I don’t know how many photos Dani took, but it was definitely in the thousands while we were in the South!
Awesome photos! Savannah is definitely a special city. It’s very high up on my list of U.S. cities I really want to revisit and explore more in the near future!
Oh, you really should…it’s such an original city, there’s nowhere like it! Let us know when you go!
Savannah is one of my very favorite cities to photograph, because you’ll never find the same eccentricity twice. You captured it beautifully!
Hi Krista, thanks so much! The photos are all Dani! She has such an eye for detail – such a great skill to have in Savannah with all its eccentricities.
I would love to visit the Savannah mansions lined with hundred-year old trees. That’s one road trip for the future. 😀
I’m heading to Savannah next month for the first time (other than stop-throughs en route to Charleston), and I CANNOT WAIT.
Kristin, you will absolutely love it! Savannah is so pretty and we loved the vibe of the city!
Thanks for your beautiful pictures of the city where I was born and live. I appreciate the reminders of its uniqueness, which can be taken for granted as I rush through life each day. Often it takes a visitor’s eye to remind us locals of what we have. Come back soon.
Thanks so much, Chuck! You are very lucky to live in such a wonderful city 🙂 We will be back soon for sure!
Savannah really is a great town. We visited for the first time last year and fell in love. Like you said, we could spend days just wandering the different squares downtown. And the food…no shortage of great stuff there.
Absolutely! We found so many independent little coffee shops and restaurants, we could spend weeks eating our way around Savannah 🙂
I tend to get a bit stir crazy in small towns but I feel like a few days here with a good book would be heavenly.
Absolutely! The perfect place to read – the parks, the squares, the little cafes… 🙂
Great pics! I am still upset about not making it to Savannah during my trip around the USA in 2004.
Hey Spencer! Don’t worry, one of the cool things about Savannah is its timeless feeling. Even if you go in 2015 I bet the city will be almost entirely the same!
Great pictures for a great destination-love it!
Thanks, Julie 🙂 We’d love to go back to Savannah and spend a month or two there! Hope we can make it happen one day.
