Polaroid of the week: Timeless glamor at the Chicago Theatre

We love to discover Jessica’s hometown through the eyes of tourists, making the most of every day strolling the sidewalks of downtown Chicago – and not just those towering skyscrapers that make Chicago so famous. One stop we never miss is a visit to admire the legendary Chicago Theatre. Its beautiful architecture and neon marquee is recognized round the world thanks to the movie Chicago.

Grandeur was always the intention with the Chicago Theatre, its arch in the facade was modeled off the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and when the French Baroque-style theater opened in 1921, it was one of the grandest theaters in the world. A national landmark in its day, the 3,600-seat Chicago Theatre served as host not only to theater productions, but also silent films, movies, concerts and comedy. Indeed, the neon lights inspire a far more classic magnificence than what you might see on holidays to Las Vegas, for example, and a walk past here at night inspires a totally different feeling for the city than up and down the Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier or through one of Chicago’s many residential neighborhoods.
