The buildings of Buenos Aires are incredibly ornate, and in some places you could easily think you are in Paris. That is partially due to the heavy European immigration over the years, but also because, as we learned during the Aristocratic Buenos Aires walk we took a couple of weeks ago, most of the fountains, street lamps, street signs and building materials were actually imported from France. The boats that carried agricultural goods up from Argentina to Europe were left empty and needed the materials to weigh them down when making the return trip across the Atlantic.
Of all the features we see on the buildings, we just love the beautifully detailed stone men and women shouldering the weight of balconies or whole buildings. They sure don’t make ’em like this anymore. We’re confident that even those visitors with a vague interest in architecture would enjoy a walk through neighborhoods of Buenos Aires.

Aah, Andi, I wish I remembered where exactly I took this picture but I have to admit - I have no idea! I took several ones of buildings with these stone statues all over town though.
