Travel is down this year because of Covid-19. That’s true for families, but also women traveling for work or a vacation. Cruise ships aren’t sailing in most cases, and there are fewer people on flights.
Female travelers who have to take a trip year should be wary of several things. Let’s take a look at some of them so you’ll have these potential concerns in mind as you get ready for your trip.
Reckless Taxi and Ride Share Drivers
Many women have a horror story about a reckless taxi or Uber driver that barely got them to their destination in one piece. In some cases, though, the passenger was not so lucky.
For instance, think about popular vacation spots like:
- New Orleans
- Las Vegas
Las Vegas is located in Clark County, and in 2019, there were twenty taxi-caused traffic accidents with fatalities or injuries. This year, women traveling to a popular vacation spot should be wary when they hail a cab or call an Uber or Lyft.
If you feel less than comfortable with the way an individual is driving, then demand they pull over and let you out. Don’t think that you have to be polite and wait till you get to your destination if a taxi or ride share driver is behaving recklessly.
Whether you’re traveling for work or pleasure, women should still watch out for Covid-19. It’s out there, and it has killed approximately 190,000 people to date in the US.
You can lessen the chances of contracting it by:
- Wearing a mask whenever possible
- Washing your hands frequently
- Keeping at least six feet away from other individuals when you can
You should also take a bus or rent a car when possible rather than flying. Flying is much faster, but it’s also more dangerous.
You can wear a face mask while you’re on a place, but you’re still in an enclosed space with other individuals and circulating air. It’s not an ideal circumstance if you’re trying to avoid a highly contagious virus.
Women traveling alone might feel adventurous sometimes, and there’s nothing wrong with that. You might be on a trip to find out about yourself and take a break from your life. Maybe that means things like trying some news foods or exploring a brand-new city.
While you’re doing those things, be sure to read some travel guides first and stop by some online message boards. You’ll want to find out a little bit about the city you’re visiting.
Avoid high-crime neighborhoods where muggers lurk. You might also feel safer carrying a can of mace with you. Stick to well-lit areas and away from back alleys and dubious shortcuts.
Watch What You Eat and Drink
You’ll probably be eager to try some exotic cuisine or local delicacies. Maybe you’ll find some new favorites.
At the same time, be careful if you’re eating things like seafood or anything raw, like oysters. Sometimes that can be a mistake, and you don’t want to deal with any parasites or food poisoning.
You should also find out about the water quality where you’re going. If it’s not so great, you may want to stick to bottled water and other drinks until you get to a region where that’s not such a concern.
You should also keep an eye on the weather forecast during your travels. We’re into hurricane season now, and even if you’re not going somewhere at a high risk, you still might feel some peripheral effects.
A hurricane hitting one part of the country could mean some heavy rainfall and high winds elsewhere. If you know that you’re going to be driving or flying when there’s rough weather about, then you might need to make other arrangements.
Also, if you’re going somewhere that’s extremely hot at this time of year, make sure to bring some sunscreen and use it whenever you’re going to be outside. If you have fair skin, then even a little bit of direct sun exposure in the middle of the day can damage you.
A woman traveling alone can learn a lot about herself. You might take the time to get over a breakup or separation. You may do it to celebrate graduating from college, or perhaps you’re visiting relatives you haven’t seen in ages.
There’s something romantic about solo travel, and you’ll probably enjoy it, so long as you watch out for any dangers and make sound decisions.
