The Best Travel Makeup Tips

Beauty rituals are hard to maintain when traveling. With that said, where there’s a will, there’s a way. While packing limits what you can bring, you only need items from each of the following five groupings for a natural sun-kissed summer look.

1 Cleansing Wipes

If you learn nothing else from this article, please hear this: organic makeup wipes are essential. They are gentle, can be used on the entire face (and near eye area without irritation), and in a pinch, can be used as a between-shower body freshener too.

Many believe wipes do not work for all skin types, and they leave remnants of makeup and mascara behind, but that is not true. There are a variety of organic cleansing wipe brands available, so it may require trial-and-error to determine which one works best for your skin.dani and cat

2 Moisturizer/Sunscreen

Since one product does not solve everything, so you almost need a moisturizer for daytime use and one to use at night. The daytime product must contain sunscreen (at least an SPF 15 or higher) and be gentle enough to apply on the face and body if necessary. Some daytime moisturizers are multi-purpose in that they provide SPF coverage and are tinted to provide a sun-kissed look. Nighttime moisturizers can be more vibrant and thicker (and skin-type specific) without SPF protection.

If you have space, packing an aloe vera moisturizer is also recommended. It moisturizes the body and soothes skin rashes from bug bites after a long hike or sunburn after a day at the beach. This is another product that you need to figure out which is best for you via trial-and-error. Some people do not like the sticky feeling of an aloe vera gel so that an aloe vera lotion may be preferable.

3 Lip Care

SPF lip care rules the day also. So, if you only pack one lip product, make sure it has sun protection (also 15 or more). It can be a lightweight lip balm, a heavier lip conditioner, or if you desire color, a lip tint. Generally, lip products do not take up a lot of space so that you can pack one or more.

4 Lash Care

Once upon a time, lash care products meant mascara. That is no longer true, so the choices are endless. There are primers, serums, and false lashes, to name a few. Perhaps you are a tried-and-true waterproof mascara user during the summer, which is fine too, but it might be fun to experiment with some of the newer products and add one to your travel bag for your next trip.

5 Eye Care

Maybe if you find yourself blessed with good genes or eternal youth, you do not need to add an eye cream or gel to your travel bag. But those of us who suffer from allergies, which can cause puffiness, discoloration, or the ever-unpopular bags under the eyes, need an eye product to minimize these issues.

Though I talk about packing these items in a travel bag, if you are camping or in a situation where your travel bag could get overheated, consider packing your moisturizers, lip products, and eye cream with ice packs in a small cooler. Not only will this preserve the products, but they will also feel more refreshing when applied.
