London is a brilliant place to take the kids during the summer holidays. With an array of events to choose from, shows to watch and attractions to visit, your children will never tire of the capital. Below we have listed our top three London museums and galleries for you to take the children to over the school break.
1. Tate Modern
This playground of interactive art and film will have your children bubbling with excitement. Admission is free, but to gain access to some of the exhibitions a charge is usually applied.
What to see: The Damien Hirst exhibition has been storming newspaper headlines and will be exclusively at the Tate Modern until 9th September. There is something here for everyone; a shark for the boys and butterflies for the girls, among many other masterpieces.
What to look out for: The Hall located on the ground floor plays host to a variety of different interactive art pieces. Our favourite piece from the past was the slides and going down the multiple flumes on mats; we’re big kids at heart.

2. The Natural History Museum
Open the doors into a library that is filled with historic artefacts and interactive displays. When wandering down the halls of the Natural History Museum your children will unearth the mysteries of our planet and learn through visual displays.
What to see: The Dinosaurs have captured many imaginations and through the Natural History Museum’s display, kids will discover how they lived, ate and became extinct.
What to look out for: Animal Inside Out is an event that will be running within the historic walls of the Natural History Museum until 16th September. There will be 90 plastinated animals and capillary specimens on display in the Waterhouse Gallery and will showcase the inner workings of some of the world’s greatest animals.

3. Science Museum
If your children have always been fascinated with the universe, aliens and the many planets that are within the solar system, there is only one place for you take them, The Science Museum. You’ll be teleported into outer space where you will discover how the solar system was born. Climate change, medicine and engineering technologies are other subjects that are touched upon in this oversized laboratory.
What to see: Philharmonic Orchestra – Universe of Sound: The Planets. With the use of touch screens and movement sensitive technology visitors are able to recreate the feeling of being in an orchestra.
What to look out for: Ariel 1 was the first satellite to carry experiments devised and operated by UK universities and was the world’s first international satellite. The Ariel 1 exhibition will feature scale models of the Ariel 1 and Ariel 4 satellites and a flight spare of the Ariel 5 cosmic X-ray detector.
